Relationship between motor development level and variables of the development context in children

Motor development in children can be related to many factors, wherein the variables of the development context in which children actively participate present a meaningful potential in the levels that have been reached. The objective of this study was to verify the relationship between motor development levels and variables of the development context in children with age between 6 and 9 years. In order to evaluate the motor development level, the Motor Development Scale (ROSA NETO, 2002) was used. The variables of the development context analyzed were: the amount of physical activities practiced by the children, the amount of hours these children remained practicing physical activities and the places where these children used to play when they were at home. The results demonstrated that childen involved in the study obtained classification between “normal low” and “very superior” standards. The development context of the children that were evaluated, based on the results, shows that the development proximal processes have generated a positive impact on children motor development, regardless of not being verified meaningful correlations between the development context variables and motor ages.
