The History of Professional Education has gained space in the field of Education History. On the foundation built from discussions on  school culture and political discourse, by intellectuals, and educational institutions alike, the study of professional education has broadened its scope, time frames and even the documents available to the researchers. Given this scenario, this article brings some thoughts regarding the state of the art of the researches that relate to the history of professional education, focusing on dissertations and theses produced in Brazil, on that subject. In this work we tried to have an analysis both quantitative and qualitative, observing, on one hand, the volume of researches and how they present themselves in the post grad programs; on the other hand, the profile of those studies, their methodologies and sources, among other aspects. After building a robust database, we proceed to the analysis, discussion and problematization of the gathered data, looking for research tendencies. Beyond that, the article intends to reflect on research possibilities that weren't sufficiently explored enough.
