Resumo: The aim of this paper is to investigate which were the impacts of the trade liberalization process carried out from the 1980s in Bangladesh on the female labor force engaged in the production of garments in this country, considering the high employability rate of women in the work force in this sector in recent decades and its great representation in world production and exportation. The assumption is that economies have different structures, which tend to have specific repercussions and different distributive effects on men and women. From a research that applies the trade and gender approach and gathers data from empirical data, it is identified that the Bangladeshi economy grew steadily from the 1980s to the recent period, as well as its per capita GDP, the volume of production and the country's clothing exports, but preserved many gender inequalities. The economy's performance had little impact on improving the well-being of the local female labor force employed in the garment sector or on removing women from social subordination.
