Resumo: Latin America occupies a position of dependency and subjugation in relation to the global North's developed countries that goes back to its colonisation by the Europeans. This article aims at analysing Latin America's dependent position regarding the powers of the North, countering the traditional theoretical perspectives that seek to accomplish this analyses – stages of growth models, dependency theory, and modernisation theory – with the decolonial line of research in International Relations. Then, it seeks to debate the trajectory of the academic debate about South states' dependency and the conceptual evolution that characterises them. In addition, it is questioned the possibility of change of the region's status quo based on its colonisation history and its trajectory's particularities. Lastly, taking into account the debate about dependency that occurs in the 20 th century, this article searches to analyse the epistemological dependency of the South countries in relation to the great powers and how it impacts in International Relations knowledge production.
