Infrastructure and student achievement in Prova Brasil: aspects and conections

Resumo: This article presents an exploratory study about school infrastructure and analyzes its connections with the performance of students in the final years of elementary school in Brazil Exam 2017 (Prova Brasil 2017). For that, techniques of descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results indicate that Brazilian Schools, especially in North and Northeast regions still have got infrastructure deficit and some public politics adopted had not reached the expected result. It highlights the significant contribution of factors such as the presence of computer labs and internet, sport court, facilities for people with special needs (PNE), periodic garbage gathering and auditorium for the good school performance in analyzed evaluation. It is expected from the results obtained can be useful to guide public politics and to pique the interest in discussion about the impact of the material conditions of school enviroment on the quality education.

Para esto, se ha utilizado técnicas de estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Los resultados indican que las escuelas brasileñas, especialmente las de regiones como Norte y Noreste, todavía poseen deficiencias en la infraestructura y que algunas políticas públicas adoptadas no están alcanzando el efecto esperado. Se destaca la significativa contribución de factores como la presencia del laboratorio de informática y internet, cancha de deportes, dependencias PNE, colecta periódica de la basura y auditorio, para el buen desarrollo escolar en la evaluación analizada. Se espera que los resultados obtenidos puedan ser útiles para orientar políticas públicas y para que despierten un mayor interés en el debate sobre los impactos de las condiciones materiales del ambiente escolar en la calidad de la educación.Este artigo apresenta um estudo exploratório sobre infraestrutura escolar, e analisa suas conexões com o desempenho de estudantes dos anos finais do ensino fundamental, na Prova Brasil. Para isto, foram utilizadas técnicas de estatística descritiva e inferencial. Os resultados indicam que as escolas brasileiras, especialmente as das regiões Norte e Nordeste, ainda possuem deficiências de infraestrutura e que algumas políticas públicas adotadas não têm alcançado o efeito esperado. Destaca-se a significativa contribuição de fatores como presença de laboratório de informática e internet, quadra de esportes, dependências PNE, coleta de lixo e auditório para o bom desempenho escolar na avaliação analisada.
