THE CONSTRUCTION OF MEANINGS ABOUT WATER CONDENSATION WITH PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Summary: This article describes and interprets the process of constructing scientific meanings about water condensation, promoted with a class of the 4th year of basic education, with an average age of 9.4 years. It results from a broader pedagogical intervention, which incorporated an inquiry-based approach to science teaching. Through the analysis of the class diary, it presents the students' initial conceptions on the subject under study, the scientific processes used by them in the condensation contexts created by a glass tumbler with water and ice and by breathing into a mirror and identifies the learning moments with particular importance for developing an understanding of water condensation that were promoted in those contexts. Lastly, it also presents the results of the assessment of the students’ learning and a few considerations on the implications for teachers' practices and training processes.

Es parte de los resultados de una intervención pedagógica más amplia, que incorporó un enfoque de enseñanza de las ciencias basado en la experimentación y la investigación. A través del análisis del diario de clase, presenta las concepciones iniciales de los alumno sobre el tema en estudio, los procesos científicos utilizados por ellos en los contextos de condensación creados por un vaso de agua y hielo y al soplar en la superficie fría de un espejo e identifica importantes momentos de aprendizaje en el desarrollo de la comprensión de la condensación del agua, promovida en esos contextos. Finalmente, también presenta los resultados de la evaluación del aprendizaje de los alumno y hace algunas consideraciones sobre las implicaciones para la práctica de los docentes y para los procesos de formación.Este artigo descreve e interpreta o processo de construção de significados científicos sobre a condensação da água, promovido numa turma do 4.º ano de escolaridade, com uma média de idades de 9,4 anos. Ele resulta de uma intervenção pedagógica mais ampla, que incorporou uma abordagem de ensino das ciências baseada na experimentação e investigação. Através da análise do diário de aula, apresenta as conceções iniciais dos alunos sobre o tema em estudo, os processos científicos por eles utilizados nos contextos de condensação criados por um copo de vidro com água e gelo e pelo bafejar para um espelho e identifica momentos de aprendizagem particularmente importantes no desenvolvimento da compreensão da condensação da água, promovidos naqueles contextos.
