Technological Innovations Applied to the Study of Insect Vectors: a technological prospecting of different traps for sandfly (Diptera: Psychodidae)

Resumo: | Sandflies are insect vectors of leishmaniasis, so improving collection methods is essential for developing vector control strategies. This study aimed to explore this sandflies capture methods deposited in national and international patent databases and contribute to the evaluation of such methods. We consulted three patent databases, 11 descriptors were applied, and 19 patents were obtained, associated or not with physical and chemical attractants. Brazil and the United States have a higher number of registrations. The patents were mainly deposited by a natural person and related to passive collection methods. The number of deposits increased after 2010, and it was found that those made by universities were lower than those made by natural persons. The results show that technological prospecting is a powerful tool for insect study and may encourage the distribution of resources to subsidize research in this field of knowledge. |

Este estudo objetivou explorar os métodos de captura de flebotomíneos depositados em bancos de patentes nacionais e internacionais e contribuir para a avaliação desses métodos. Foram consultados três bancos de dados e aplicados 11 descritores, obtendo-se 19 patentes, associadas ou não a atrativos físicos e químicos. Brasil e Estados Unidos detêm a maioria dos registros, e verificou-se que grande parte das patentes foi depositada por pessoa física e está relacionada a métodos de coleta passiva. O número de depósitos aumentou após 2010, e os registros feitos por universidades são menores que aqueles depositados por pessoas físicas. Os resultados mostram que a prospecção tecnológica é uma ferramenta poderosa para o estudo desses insetos e pode favorecer a alocação de recursos para pesquisas nesse campo do conhecimento.
