Post-Pandemic Scenarios for Vaccine R&D and Production Mesh in Brazil

This work aims to analyze the contribution of investments that are being applied in the area of R&D and vaccine production, motivated by the Covid-19 epidemic, in Brazilian capacity of vaccine development, after pandemic. Specific funding notices for research to combat Covid-19 were analyzed, as well as the four clinical studies underway in the country with a focus on their contribution to the vaccine production chain in Brazil. The results demonstrate that important factors such as laboratories with biological safety level 3, training of researchers in preclinical and clinical research, networks of collaboration between institutions, transfer of key technologies and increased productive capacity, are being created, setting Brazil on a new level for vaccine development. However, for this scenario to materialize, it is necessary to provide funds to keep the deployed infrastructures working, on a continuous basis, in order to avoid losing this investment.
