Resumo: This article aims to understand the social function of the Normal School in the present time. Therefore, an empirical research was carried out with graduates from a school of this modality, linked to the Department of Education of the Rio de Janeiro (SEEDUC-RJ). We sought to investigate the professional and academic destiny of these young graduates from such an institution, especially if they are exercising the teaching profession. What would be the social relevance of teacher training at a secondary level in the historical time of the third decade of the 21st century? Although the training modality is compressed by the Brazilian educational legislation to no longer exist in the medium or long term, we conclude that the young teachers trained by the Escola Normal still play a role in forming a workforce that will be destined to work in peripheral private schools or to assume functions that have been displaced from their training and that have lower salary

Por lo tanto, se realizó una investigación empírica con alumnos de una escuela de esta modalidad, vinculada a la Secretaría de Estado de Educación de Río de Janeiro (SEEDUC-RJ). Buscamos investigar el destino profesional y académico de estos jóvenes egresados ​​de tal institución, especialmente si están ejerciendo la profesión docente. ¿Cuál sería la relevancia social de la formación docente de nivel secundario en el tiempo histórico de la tercera década del siglo XXI? Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa empírica com estudantes egressas de uma escola desta modalidade, vinculada à Secretaria de Estado de Educação do Rio de Janeiro (SEEDUC-RJ). Procurou-se investigar o destino profissional e acadêmico dessas jovens egressas formadas por tal instituição, sobretudo se estão exercendo o magistério. Qual seria a relevância social de uma formação de professores em nível médio no tempo histórico de terceira década do século XXI?
