Resumo: Plato in the Phaedrus dialogue, presents Eros in the role of an irrational force that has a connection with mania (delirium), whose various forms, according to the second speech of Socrates, are not all negative. In the Banquet, Eros takes a special way, a constitutive dimension as epithymia (Wish). Indeed, the notion of Eros as both positive form of mania, as of epithymia has a prominent place in the philosophy of Plato, it takes the role of a key driver of human life, including there in the very philosophical activity.

Platão, no diálogo Fedro, apresenta Eros no papel de uma força irracional que possui ligação com a manía (delírio), cujas diversas formas, de acordo com o segundo discurso de Socrátes, não são todas negativas. No Banquete, Eros assume, de forma particular, uma dimensão constitutiva como epithymia (Desejo). Com efeito, a noção de Eros tanto como forma positiva de manía, quanto de epithymia tem um lugar de destaque na filosofia de Platão, pois adquire o papel de motor essencial da vida humana, incluindo- se aí a própria atividade filosófica.
