Resumo: This study assesses Brazilian Statesâ fiscal sustainability over the period 1985-2005 using Lin, Levin & Chen (2002) and Im, Pesaran & Shin (2003) panel unit roots tests. Although there is a great concern over habitual deficits in State government, the results show that their fiscal policies are sustainable.

Para isso, utiliza-se da razÃo entre a Despesa Corrente e Receita Corrente e a Despesa Corrente e o PIB e de testes de raiz unitÃria para dados em painel. Os resultados dos testes de Lin, Levin & Chen (2002) e de Im, Pesaran & Shin (2003) refutam a hipÃtese nula de presenÃa de raiz de raiz unitÃria (i.e., o processo estocÃstico à nÃo estacionÃrio) ao nÃvel de 5% de significÃncia.
