This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study that analyzed the utterance rate of semi-spontaneous speech in 50 children from Espírito Santo. Spontaneous speech samples were collected and the measurement units of syllables and words per minute and phones per second were analyzed. Inferential statistical analysis was performed using Student's T Test to quantify the samples by crossing the p-value (with a significance level of 0.05). The children were recruited from elementary schools in Grande Vitória and divided into two groups, namely: Group 1 (G1), 7-year-old children, and Group 2 (G2), 10-year-old children, with 25 participants per age group. age. It was observed that 7-year-old children spend more time in total speech production, although the production of the units words, syllables and total phones is lower. There was no effect of age for any of the speech rate measures, however the average of 10-year-old children was higher for words and syllables per minute. When compared with the pre-established means for children from São Paulo, the speech rate of the Espírito Santo variety was higher. This finding strengthens the importance of dialectal control in the analysis of speech rate.
