Environmental governance for the protection of the Amazon and Cerrado biomes: What has Brazil done? o que o Brasil tem feito?

Brazil presented in 2009 and 2015, within the scope of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Nationally Determined Contribution to the Paris Agreement, a set of goals aimed at reducing greenhouse gases for the years 2020, 2025 and 2030, including forest restoration and reforestation. These goals are supported by the implementation of public policies and technical measures for different sectors of the economy. This study seeks to identify which technical or management measures are being promoted to prevent and control deforestation in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes, in order to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. For this, data with information on land and forest use change were removed and prepared from data from SEEG Brasil, TerraBasilis and INPE. The results indicate that the commitment assumed in 2009 to develop with sustainability, without degrading nature, the fulfillment of the Brazilian goals under the Paris Agreement in 2015, depends fundamentally on the Land Use Change and Forestry sector, whether by combating illegal deforestation or the implementation of reforestation activities. The results also indicate that in the last three years deforestation reached 56 thousand square kilometers of native vegetation in the Amazon and Cerrado.
