Willi Bolle (Stefan Wilhelm Bolle) was born in 1944 in Berlin. In 1966, at the age of 22, he came to Brazil to meet João Guimarães Rosa, having since carried out studies on his work. He developed throughout his trajectory several reflections at the intersection between history and literature, and the Brazilian "modernity" is the primordial object of these writings. He has been one of the great promoters of Walter Benjamin's work in Brazil, organizing collections such as Culture Documents, Barbarism Documents (BOLLE, 1986) and the Portuguese version of the Passages (BOLLE, 2006). He is Full Professor of German Literature at USP. The invitation to the interview (via e-mail) was held during the event "Testimony and melancholy", held at UFES between September 24 and 26, 2018.
