Immunization against hepatitis B in health professionals and students: integrative review

Resumo: | This integrative literature review aimed to identify the available evidences in the literature about the rate of adherence to immunization against hepatitis B by professionals and students in the health area and factors that contribute to increase or decrease adherence. The search was accomplished in the Medline database. Sample consisted of 19 studies, all with level six of evidence. The rate of adherence varied according to professional category and undergraduate course in health area. The factor that contributed to better adherence was vaccine available in the service at no cost; and to low adherence were high cost of vaccine, disbelief on the benefit of the vaccine and little investment in vaccination campaigns. It identified the need for studies with other designs able to provide better support to increase levels of adherence to vaccination and therefore the safety of professionals and students in the health area. La búsqueda fue realizada en la base de datos Medline. La muestra se constituyó de 19 estudios, todos con nivel de evidencia 6. La tasa de adhesión a inmunización varió de acuerdo con la categoría profesional y curso de pregrado. Factor que contribuyó para mejor adhesión fue vacuna disponible en el servicio sin costo; factores que contribuyeron para baja adhesión fueron el costo elevado de la vacuna, descrédito cuanto al beneficio y poco investimento de instituciones en campañas de vacunación. Se identificó la necesidad de estudios con otros diseños capaces de proporcionar un mejor apoyo para aumentar los niveles de adhesión y así la seguridad de profesionales y estudiantes del área de salud. Descriptores: Inmunización; Hepatitis B; Adhesión a Directriz; Personal de Salud.O objetivo desta revisão integrativa foi identificar as evidências disponíveis na literatura sobre o índice de adesão à imunização contra hepatite B por profissionais e estudantes da área da saúde e fatores que aumentam ou diminuem a adesão. A busca foi realizada na base de dados Medline. Dezenove estudos compuseram a amostra, todos com nível de evidência seis. A taxa de adesão variou segundo a categoria profissional e o curso de graduação na área da saúde. Os fatores que contribuíram para melhor adesão foram vacina disponível no serviço e sem custos; e para a baixa adesão foram o custo elevado da vacina, descrédito quanto ao seu benefício e pouco investimento em campanhas de vacinação. Identificou-se a necessidade de estudos com outros delineamentos capazes de fornecer melhores subsídios para aumentar os níveis de adesão à vacinação e conseqüentemente a segurança de profissionais e estudantes da área da saúde.
