Resumo: This study sought to understand the perception of the agents of public security in the State of Pará regarding the establishment and maintenance of the relationships and cooptation of agents of the penitentiary system as a way of integrating the prisons to external territorial networks of drug trafficking. The hermeneutic and dialectical method was used, under a qualitative approach, with the use of interview data collection techniques, followed by a content analysis of the speeches. As a result, it was identified that the agents of the penitentiary system, by their wide circulation inside and outside the prisons, represent an asset for the trafficking. The forms of their cooptation and action were also exposed, as well as problems related to the selection process used for their hiring. Se utilizó el método hermenéutico y dialéctico, bajo un abordaje cualitativo, con el empleo de técnicas de recopilación de datos por medio de entrevistas, a la que se le siguió un análisis de contenido de las hablas. Como resultados, se identificó que los agentes del sistema carcelario, por su amplia circulación dentro y fuera de las prisiones, representan una ventaja para el tráfico. Se revelaron, además, las formas de su cooptación y actuación, así como problemas relacionados con el proceso selectivo empleado para su contratación. Palabras clave: Sistema carcelario de Pará; cooptación de agentes del sistema carcelario; Redes de tráfico de drogas.Este estudo buscou compreender a percepção de agentes da segurança pública do Estado do Pará a respeito do estabelecimento e manutenção de relações e cooptação de agentes do sistema penitenciário como forma de integração dos presídios às redes territoriais externas do tráfico de drogas. Utilizou-se o método hermenêutico e dialético, sob uma abordagem qualitativa, com o emprego de técnicas de coleta de dados por entrevistas, seguida de uma análise de conteúdo das falas. Como resultados, identificou-se que os agentes do sistema penitenciário, por sua ampla circulação dentro e fora das cadeias, representam um trunfo para o tráfico. Revelaram-se, ainda, as formas de sua cooptação e atuação, bem como problemas relativos ao processo seletivo empregado para sua contratação.
