Resumo: The objective of this work was to evaluate three scales of interval between comments to determine the intake behavior of dairy cows. Had been used 10 crossbred cows ¾ Holstein x Zebu with average live weight of 450 kg. The experiment was conducted in the Princesa do Mateiro Farm, Ribeirão of Largo city, Bahia State in June of 2006. The design used was completely randomized and repeated measures, with 10 units for treatments. The treatments had been: ten comments in the scale of 10 minutes; ten comments in the scale of 20 minutes; and ten comments in the scale of 30 minutes. The pasture, ruminating and idle time had not differed statistical (P>0.05) between the tested scales. The number of pasture and ruminating periods had not presented differences (P>0.05) enters the scales of 10 and 20 minutes. The number of idle periods in the intervals of 20 and 30 minutes was different (P<0.05) of those in the scale of 10 minutes. The duration of the gotten pasture periods and ruminating in the scale of 10 minutes of interval was different (P<0.05) of those gotten in the scales of 20 and 30 minutes. The duration of the idle period were statistical similar (P>0.05) for the intervals of 10 and 20 minutes and both had differed from that one gotten with 30 minutes. Work the determine the bovine intake behavior can be evaluated with a variable number of animals. Suggested the maximum of ten minutes to study the intake behavior.  KEY WORDS: Intake behavior, methodology, observation intervals.
