Resumo: The paper reports the effects of nutrient omission in the substrate over the growth in diameter and height, the accumulation of dry matter, and the concentration of minerals in the leaves of Myracrodroun seedling. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, at the Department of Soil Science of the Federal University of Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The experimental design was a completely randomized block with three replications and thirteen treatments. The seedlings were grown in pots containing 5kg of a degraded soil, with Cambic Borizon, which was chemically and physically poor, according to soil analyses. The absence of all elements except Sulphur caused deleterious effects to the plants, although the omission of P and Ca was more harmful. The omission of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn did not affect seedling growth until the fourth month after transplantion, although the visual aspect of the seedlings was affected. The nutrient concentrations found in control and defficient leaves were the following: N (2.89 and 1.36%), P (0.19% and 0.08%), K (1.09% and 0.27%), Ca (1.87% and 1.45%), Mg (0.62% and 0.34%), S (0.16% and 0.09%), B (14.4ppm and 33.61ppm), Cu (1.24ppm and 2.60ppm), Fe (184.01 ppm and 176.21 ppm), Mn (108.73 ppm and 77.93 ppm) e Zn (16.09 ppm and 18.54 ppm).

O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em blocos inteiramente casualizados, com três repetições e treze tratamentos, empregados sob a técnica do elemento faltante. O substrato utilizado foi o horizonte B de um cambissolo de área degradada, que foi acondicionado em vasos de 5Kg. Foram realizadas análises físicas e químicas deste solo, confirmando sua baixa fertilidade .Observou-se que a ausência de todos os elementos, exceto o enxofre, causou prejuízo às plantas; a omissão de P, Ca foi mais limitante ao desenvolvimento das mudas; e a omissão de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn não prejudicou o crescimento das mudas até o quarto mês após a repicagem, porém, através da diagnose visual constatou-se que o aspecto visual das mudas foi afetado negativamente.
