Luiz Rosemberg Filho:: um cineasta marginal?

In this text we try to outline the debate about the relationship between the marginal cinema and the new cinema, through the case study represented by the filmmaker Luiz Rosemberg Filho, whose most important production focuses on the 1970s, commonly identified by critics as a “marginal” filmmaker. In order to do so, we present information about the filmmaker's cinematographic trajectory and map the political relations in force in the first years of Embrafilme's operation, a period in which Roberto Farias, linked to the “cinemanovistas”, was in charge. The objective is to understand these cultural links and tensions between the two important groups for the cinema of the period and to locate the production of filmmaker Rosemberg, contributing to understand his place in national cinema and his relations with Embrafilme.
