Adolescent tobacco smoking prevention: a challenge for nurses

This study sought to investigate the increase in tobacco smoking and nicotine addiction in different social contexts: individually, in the family, in school, in peer groups, in the media, in friendship communities, that is social situations that can promote the use of legal or illegal drugs or, on the other hand, can work for the prevention of its use. Our goal is to discuss the role of nurses in the prevention of tobacco smoking during adolescence, with an emphasis to instructing professional nurses to intervene constructively and reflectively in the process of identity building in the historical and cultural context of social relationships. This is a bibliographic study that adopts a narrative form. The data collection was performed by searching the scientific production indexed on the Virtual Health Library in the past nine years. The data discussion was organized into thematic categories. Our conclusion is that nursing care assistance should include the prevention of adolescent tobacco smoking in his/her community.
