Socio-economic and health profile of the nursing staff of the Piquet Carneiro polyclinic

Summary: The present study aimed at identifying the socio-economic and health profile of the Piquet Carneiro Polyclinic (in Portuguese, PPC) nursing staff. Based on the obtained profile, the study analyzed determinants and constraints of those professionals' health. It is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Sample comprised of 50 nurses. The instrument was a questionnaire which responses were analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results revealed there are determinants in workers' profile that can cause health problems: smoking habit; long working hours; inadequate diet because workers replace a balanced meal for a quick snack; low wages that limit leisure times, the access to continuing education or other services relevant to their welfare.The study helped to establish causal links between work conditions and the nurses' health conditions.

En base a tal perfil, se pretenden analizar los factores determinantes y condicionantes de lesiones a la salud de los trabajadores. Se trata de una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cuantitativo. La muestra estuvo compuesta de 50 enfermeros. Como herramienta se utilizó un cuestionario cuyas respuestas fueron analizadas usando frecuencias y porcentajes. Los resultados revelaron que existen determinantes en el perfil de estos trabajadores que pueden conducir a problemas de salud: el tabaco, muchas horas de trabajo, alimentación inadecuada porque remplazan la comida principal por una merienda rápida, bajos salarios que limitan la posibilidad de recreación, acceso a la educación permanente y otros servicios importantes relacionados con el bien estar de los seres humanos. El estudio permitió establecer algunas relaciones causales entrelas condiciones de trabajo y las condicionesde salud de su clientela.Os objetivos com este estudo foram identificar o perfil socioeconômico e de saúde dos trabalhadores de enfermagem da Policlínica Piquet Carneiro (PPC) e analisar, com base nesse perfil, determinantes e condicionantes de agravos a saúde dos trabalhadores. Trata-se de pesquisa descritiva, com abordagem quantitativa, cuja amostra foi composta por 50 trabalhadores de enfermagem. O instrumento foi um questionário, no qual as respostas tiveram uma análise frequencial e percentual. Os resultados revelaram que há determinantes no perfil desses trabalhadores que podem levar a agravos à saúde: o hábito do tabagismo; a jornada de trabalho elevada; a alimentação inadequada quando os trabalhadores substituem a refeição principal por um lanche rápido; os baixos salários, que limitam a possibilidade de lazer, de acesso à educação continuada ou outros serviços relevantes ao bem-estar do ser humano.
