Resumo: This study identifies nursing actions in the admission of patients at a surgical centre of three hospitals of the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is a qualitative, descriptive and case study research. Open interview and field diary were used to collect data. Six nurses from the surgical centers took part in the study. Analysis of the data show three major nursing actions: to evaluate the physical and the emotional condition of the patient at the surgical center, to familiarize the patient with the environment of the surgical center, and to accompany the patient, highlighting the academic background as a base of the care. These results may help nurses and nursing students to qualify the assistance given to the patient at the surgical center.

Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, descriptiva, con estudio de caso. Los instrumentos de recogida de datos fueron la encuesta abierta y el diario de campo. Participaron seis enfermeras que trabajaban en los respectivos centros quirúrgicos. Del análisis de los datos surgieron tres categorías que muestran las acciones de los enfermeros que actúan en esta unidad: evaluando las condiciones físicas y emocionales del paciente en el centro quirúrgico, haciendo que el paciente se familiarice con el ambiente no dejándolo solo y destacando la formación académica como base del cuidar. Los resultados pueden auxiliar enfermeros, académicos y enfermería a cualificar la asistencia brindada al paciente en el centro quirúrgico.Neste estudo, foram identificadas ações do enfermeiro na recepção de pacientes no centro cirúrgico de três hospitais da região noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva, com estudo de caso. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram entrevista aberta e diário de campo. Participaram seis enfermeiras que atuam nos respectivos centros cirúrgicos. Da análise dos dados emergem três categorias que denotam as ações dos enfermeiros que atuam nesta unidade: Avaliando as condições físicas e emocionais do paciente no centro cirúrgico, Familiarizando o paciente com o ambiente do centro cirúrgico e não o deixando sozinho e Destacando a formação acadêmica como base do cuidar.
