Reflection on the sexuality on mastectomized women

Resumo: The objective of this study was to understand the meaning of breast removal or partial mutilation for women. Phenomenology was used as the methodology of the research. The guiding question was:"Tell me what it means to you to have lost a part of your body?" Through a comprehensive analysis of the discourses obtained from the eight women, the issue of effect on their sexuality emerged as one of the categories of the study and was manifested by the women as necessary to the continuation of life, however, support from their partner and family members is essential to get over this experience. Support and guidance need to be given to the health team so that they may provide emotional support to the women so that they may get on with life.

Se utilizó la fenomenología como trayectoria metodológica de la investigación. El estudio se basó en la siguiente frase: "Dígame lo que es para usted haber perdido una parte de su cuerpo". A través del análisis de los discursos de ocho mujeres se planteó el tema de la sexualidad afectada como una de las categorías del estudio; que es necesaria para seguir viviendo pero que el apoyo tanto del compañero como de los familiares es indispensable para superar el hecho. Se evidencia la necesidad de que el equipo de salud brinde apoyo y orientación como soporte emocional para que estas mujeres sigan su trayectoria de vida.Neste estudo, objetivou-se compreender o significado que a mulher atribui ao ter a mama extirpada ou parcialmente mutilada. A fenomenologia foi utilizada como trajetória metodológica da pesquisa. A seguinte questão norteou o estudo: "Conte o que é, para você, ter perdido uma parte do seu corpo". Por meio da análise compreensiva dos discursos obtidos das oito mulheres, a questão da sexualidade afetada emergiu como uma das categorias do estudo e foi manifestada pelas mulheres como necessária à continuação da vida, porém é indispensável o apoio do companheiro e dos familiares para a superação do fato.
