Strategic planning: an experience of nursing students of the Federal University of Minas Gerais

Summary: The purpose of this work was to report the experience of a group of students who developed the phases of the strategic planning proposed by Cecílio (1997). This activity was carried out during the training program of the course on Nursing Administration II, offered in the 7th period of the Undergraduate Nursing Program at the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG. The authors diagnosed a problem experienced by one of the students; searched for its causes and elaborated an intervention plan. The students considered the strategic planning an adequate tool in the management of nursing care, as it is a collective practice, enabling the involvement and commitment of the health professionals in the activities developed. Based on this experience, the students recommend to the faculty of this course to continue teaching strategic planning, as it is an essential tool to manage health services, and it is focused on the quality of the care provided.

Esta actividad se llevó a cabo en el programa de entrenamiento del Curso de Administración en Enfermería II, impartido en el 7° semestre del Curso Superior de Enfermería de la Escuela de Enfermería de la Universidad Federal de Minas Gerais/UFMG. Una de las alumnas se enfrentó con un problema durante uno de los programas de entrenamiento. El problema fue diagnosticado, se buscaron las causas y se elaboró un plan de intervención. Las alumnas consideraron que la planificación estratégica era el instrumento más adecuado para gestionar la asistencia de enfermería porque se efectúa de forma colectiva y busca que los profesionales del equipo de salud se involucren y comprometan con las acciones desarrolladas. A partir de esta experiencia las alumnas recomiendan que los profesores del curso continúen enseñando la planificación estratégica por tratarse de una herramienta esencial para la gerencia de los servicios de salud cuyo foco es la calidad de la asistencia prestada.Este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar a experiência de um grupo de alunas que exercitou as fases do planejamento estratégico propostas por Cecílio (1997). Esta atividade foi realizada no estágio da Disciplina Administração em Enfermagem II, ministrada no 7° período do Curso de Graduação da Escola de Enfermagem da UFMG. Foi diagnosticado um problema vivenciado por uma das alunas em um de seus estágios, foram levantadas as causas e elaborou-se então um plano de intervenção. As alunas consideraram o planejamento estratégico um instrumento adequado para gerenciar a assistência de enfermagem, pois é realizado de forma coletiva, com a intenção de buscar o envolvimento e o compromisso dos profissionais da equipe de saúde nas ações desenvolvidas.
