Resumo: This is a study of nurses working in the Basic Health Care Services of the Public Health Care System in the town of Rio Grande, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It focuses on the work process in Collective Health, in order to visualize the instruments used by health workers in their work. We found that the relevant instruments were the knowledge acquired during training and that practiced in their daily work, which included health education. Therefore, in order to carry out the education actions, we must consider the environment in which the subject works, and think about insertion in the environment from the beginning of professional training.

Enfocamosel proceso de trabajo en salud colectiva con miras a visualizar los instrumentos utilizados por dichos profesionales en la labor llevada a cabo. Como instrumentos relevantes mencionamos el conocimiento adquirido durante la formación y aquél adquirido en el día a día de trabajo; la educación en salud es uno de estos conocimientos. Luego, para efectuar acciones de educación en salud, hay que considerar el ambiente del sujeto y hay que pensar en la inserción del asunto ambiental, desde la formación del profesional.Este trabalho apresenta um estudo com enfermeiros atuantes na Rede Básica de Serviços Públicos de Saúde do município do Rio Grande, enfocando o processo de trabalho para a atuação em Saúde Coletiva, pretendendo visualizar os instrumentos utilizados pelos profissionais para atuar no trabalho que desenvolvem. Verificou-se como instrumentos relevantes o conhecimento adquirido durante a formação e aqueles praticados no cotidiano de trabalho, sendo a educação em saúde um desses saberes.
