Sarcopenia associada ao desempenho físico em idosos com diabetes mellitus tipo 2

The world is going through a demographic transition, a process that is universal and irrevocable, and which causes changes in all systems of the body both morphological and functional. Physical inactivity is a very common trend among the elderly, and can lead to chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus. This study is a section of the research entitled "Frailty Syndrome Associated with Sarcopenia in Elderly with Diabetes Mellitus" and aims to analyze sarcopenia as it relates to physical activity in elderly with DM2 who attended primary health care premises in a municipality of Mato Grosso from September 2019 to April 2020. It is a quantitative cross-sectional study conducted with 70 elderly people diagnosed with DM2. The patients were selected for data collection from the registration at the FFU. Data analysis was processed through stata 14.0 statistical package, using levels of 95% of confidence intervals and significance coefficient equal to 5% (p≤ 0.05). The study had mostly female participants (58.57%), aged between 60 and 74 years (61.46%). The relation between sarcopenia and physical inactivity is prevailing: the sarcopenia index (18%) and physical inactivity (14%), ages up to 75 years and age above 75 years, has a higher rate of sarcopenia and physical inactivity (20% and 16%). With these results, it is feasible to develop public health policies which in turn act as interventions that promote healthy lifestyle habits that may result in less public spending on health and hence contribute to the independence and quality of life of the elderly.
