Summary: | It is noted that, throughout the world, the early development of excess weight has increased in a worrying way among children and adolescents. Brazil stands out as the country that has increased the rates of overweight and obesity in the child and adolescent population. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anthropometric profile of children and adolescents attended by the School Health Program in the northern region of Cuiabá - Mato Grosso. A cross-sectional study with 4308 children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 years. For the evaluation of the anthropometric profile we used the anthropometric indices: weight for age (P / I), height for age (I / I), weight for height (P /E) and body mass index for age, Expressed in Z-score according to WHO curves. For data analysis, it was used measures of frequency and association (reason for prevalence, IC95%). It was observed an increased risk of overweight, overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. 15.1% of children under 5 years of age presented a risk of overweight, among children aged 5 to 9 years, 12.5% were overweight and 8.3% were obese, and 16.7% were adolescents overweight and 8.4% obesity. The prevalence of overweight was higher among males in all age groups, but there was no significant association. There were higher rates of overweight and obese children and adolescents than with leanness, that is, this population follows the nutritional transition trend experienced in Brazil. |
