In the state of Mato Grosso the forest sector generates jobs and income, thus fulfilling its role to strengthen the social structure. The objective of this study was to characterize the wood sector in the state based on the main forest species sold. The research was based on reports provided by the System of Commercialization and Forest Products Transportation (SISFLORA), comprising the period from January / 2010 to January / 2015. Each report is carried out according to the Forest Guides (documents containing volume, value and species). For the busy main species of logs, indicating volume in cubic meters sold, it considered the GF1. For the main products processed and marketed, by forest species, GF1, GF2, GF3 and GF3i. The data on the sales destination and participating municipalities in the wood trade, was used to GF3. The results showed that there were 12 main species marketed, highlighting the Cedrinho with 28.8% of the total volume, followed by Cambara (15.5%) and Cupiúba (13.7%). The fate of these products is 67.5% for interstate sales, export is 9.7% and internal sales 22.8%. The northern region of the state with the largest number of suppliers municipalities, Sinop accounting for 17.11% of the total. Among the main products sold is sawn wood products, with the board containing 36.36% of a total of 4.2 million cubic meters. It was observed that Mato Grosso represents an important region for the forest sector. It is necessary that further studies be carried out to contribute to the strengthening of the sector.
