This work presents a brief contextualization of the current political moment experienced in Brazil, marked by the rise of the extreme right figured in the image of Jair Messias Bolsonaro, PSL candidate at the time. The study shows the vitality of the studies of narratives, from the character category, for an understanding of journalism as an instance that produces meanings about the universe of politics, especially the conjuncture experienced in the 2018 election. The Brazilian political scene, explores the concepts of narrative, journalistic character and figuration, in addition to problematizing characteristics of magazine journalism. This monograph wants to analyze the representations of Fernando Haddad and Jair Bolsonaro in 2018 election as an attempt to understand whether political asymmetries seen in times of normality still remained present.The study makes an in-depth analysis of the figurations of the characters in this abnormal context of life in democracy.
