MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ECOLOGICAL BRICKS WITH RESIDUE INCORPORATION ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to evaluate the mechanical properties of bricks made from the soil mix, cement and residue. The experiment was realized in Sinop, MT, Brazil, the soil was a Red-Yellow-Dystrophic Latosol. The cement used was Portland cement (PC II-32 Z) and the residue was from mechanical turning. The soilcement-residue bricks were made with three concentrations of residue, 5, 10 and 15% and a witness without addition of residue were molded in a manual press and kept moist curing for 7 days. Resistance assays for compressive and water absorption were realized according to NBR 8492 (2012). On average resistance values obtained were 0.33 to 0.45 MPa. Tested residue levels have absorptive capacity varying between 7 and 13%, which was within the limit set by the NBR 8491 (ABNT, 2012). The bricks made from soil-cement-residue mixture did not meet the minimum resistance required as a rule, the same was observed in bricks without adding residue, regardless of age test. Keywords: soil-cement, sustainable, resistance, absorbency.
