ETHNOMATHEMATICS IN THE GUATEMALAN CURRICULUM: AN EXPERIENCE

Resumo: In this article, the author shares her professional experiences with ethnomathematics, from the time she first learned about it in the early 1980s to the present day. As a high school teacher in Guatemala, as a teacher former and as a writer of textbooks and creator of teaching materials, she shares experiences and examples, as well as reactions from students and colleagues. The author details how she integrated the Mayan numbering system and ethnomathematics into Guatemala's basic national curriculum in 2005, which guides the work of all the country's educational institutions. She finishes with an actual discourse, preseting what colleagues are doing now in classes and the impact of Ethnomathematics on the lives of teachers and students in 2023.

Como docente en las aulas de secundaria de Guatemala, como formadora de maestros y también como escritora de libros de texto y diseñadora de material didáctico, se comparten vivencias y ejemplos, así como reacciones de los estudiantes y colegas. Se detalla cómo se logró integrar el Sistema Maya de numeración y las Etnomatemáticas en el Currículo nacional base de Guatemala en 2005 que orienta el trabajo de todas las instituciones educativas del país. Termina con la actualidad mostrando lo que hacen ahora los colegas en las aulas y el impacto de las Etnomatemáticas en la vida de los maestros y los estudiantes en 2023.Neste artigo a autora compartilha sua experiencia profissional com relação à Etnomatemática, desde que a conheceu, no começo dos anos 80, até a atualidade. Como docente em aulas do ensino médio da Guatemala, como formadora de professores e como escritora de livros didáticos e criadora de materiais didáticos, a autora narra vivencias e exemplos, bem como reações de estudantes e colegas. Detalha como chegou a integrar o Sistema Maia de numeração e a Etnomatemática no Currículo nacional base da Guatemala, em 2005, que orienta o trabalho de toda as instituições educativas do país.
