THE IMPORTANCE OF USING THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS IN EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES IN LINEAR ALGEBRA

Summary: This article contains elements of a master's research and aims to answer the following question: What aspects intrinsic to the teaching and learning processes of the concepts of Dependence and Linear Independence indicate the importance of a didactic approach to these concepts based on the History of Mathematics? To this end, bibliographic research was carried out on authors who discuss the difficulties encountered by students when they deal with the concepts of Linear Dependence and Independence and also on scholars who deal with the role of formalism and axiomatization in educational processes in Linear Algebra. Although formal and axiomatic languages ​​are pointed out by Brazilian literature as complicating factors in understanding the concepts in focus, in fact they are key elements of the discipline, since they enable the understanding of the unifying and generalizing character of Linear Algebra, which emerges of its own historical-epistemological constitution. In this way, the teacher's challenge is to lend functionality to this formalism and this axiomatization, and, in this way, the History of Mathematics emerges as an important provider of didactic resources for this doing.

Para ello, se realizó una investigación bibliográfica sobre autores que discuten las dificultades encontradas por los estudiantes cuando tratan los conceptos de Dependencia e Independencia Lineal y también sobre estudiosos que tratan sobre el papel del formalismo y la axiomatización en los procesos educativos en Álgebra Lineal. Aunque los lenguajes formales y axiomáticos sean señalados por la literatura brasileña como factores que complican la comprensión de los conceptos en foco, de hecho son elementos clave de la disciplina, una vez que posibilitan la comprensión del carácter unificador y generalizador del Álgebra Lineal, que emerge de su propia constitución histórico-epistemológica. De esta forma, el desafío del docente es dotar de funcionalidad a este formalismo y a esta axiomatización y, de esta manera, la Historia de las Matemáticas emerge como una importante proveedora de recursos didácticos para este hacer.O presente artigo contém elementos de uma pesquisa de mestrado e tem por objetivo responder a seguinte questão: Que aspectos intrínsecos aos processos de ensino e de aprendizagem dos conceitos de Dependência e Independência Linear sinalizam a importância de uma abordagem didática desses conceitos balizada pela História da Matemática? Para tal, realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica em autores que discutem as dificuldades encontradas pelos estudantes quando estes lidam com os conceitos de Dependência e Independência Linear e ainda em estudiosos que tratam do papel do formalismo e da axiomatização nos processos educativos em Álgebra Linear. Apesar das linguagens formal e axiomática serem apontadas pela literatura brasileira como fatores complicadores da compreensão dos conceitos em foco, na verdade configuram-se em elementos chave da disciplina, uma vez que possibilitam o entendimento do caráter unificador e generalizante da Álgebra Linear, o qual desponta de sua própria constituição histórico-epistemológica.
