Self-representations in the scientific education of Portuguese language female teachers promoted in professional master’s program

Resumo: We investigate the scientific education process of female teachers of Portuguese as mother language, based on the analysis of some graduation final works produced by them and presented as professional master thesis. To understand the mentioned process, we identified research objects produced to answer specific challenges of language teaching; and we describe some self-representations produced by female teachers in their thesis. This research is characterized as a documentary analysis carried out from the qualitative and quantitative research approaches. We use the experiential metafunction of language, proposed in Systemic Functional Linguistics, to produce a textual microanalysis on the selected documents. The concept of scientific education is based especially on literacy studies developed in Applied Linguistics and on scientific literacy developed in the Teaching of Natural Sciences. The analysis showed that the female teachers produced research objects in response to demands experienced in their workplace, as idealized in the policy of in-service education for educators in professional master degrees. The signs of reflections on the practice were recurrent, despite the emphasis given to theoretical aspects, without a preponderance of the self-representation as basic school teachers in the analyzed master thesis

Para compreender o referido processo, identificamos objetos de pesquisa produzidos para responder desafios pontuais do ensino de língua; e descrevemos autorrepresentações produzidas pelas professoras nas dissertações. Esta pesquisa se caracteriza como uma análise documental realizada a partir das abordagens de pesquisa qualitativa e quantitativa. As análises mostraram que as professoras produziram objetos de investigação em resposta a demandas experienciadas no próprio local de trabalho, conforme idealizado na política de formação em serviço de educadoras em mestrado profissional.
