Resumo: Based on data collected by Silva (2020), the main purpose of this article is to present a historiographical overview of the creation of the Academic Master's Degree in Languages at the Federal University of Piauí (MEL/UFPI) and the development of linguistic production throughout its term first decade (2004-2014). For that, the analysis of (i) official documents that regulated the Literature Course and the MEL/UFPI was considered, (ii) of a sample of 38 dissertations that, from different research perspectives, contributed to the linguistic production in the state, and (iii) from testimonies of some Language undergraduate and graduate professors. First, through the principle of contextualization (KOERNER, 2014 [1995]), a survey of the opinion climate that favored the implementation and development of the MEL/UFPI was presented. Then, based on the concept of research programs (SWIGGERS, 2004), data that show how the researchers addressed the linguistic issues in the dissertations produced and defended during the period in question were presented. The analyzes allowed to establish (i) the research perspectives (in Language Studies field) privileged in the dissertations; (ii) a continuity in relation to the language vision circumscribed in most of these works, regardless of the perspective adopted, due to the emphasis given to the social, historical, pragmatic, ideological, interactive, discursive character, etc. of tongue/language; (iii) the most privileged linguistic phenomena and (iv) the analysis techniques most used in investigations.
