Defesa : Curitiba, 27/08/2020Inclui referências: p. 306-315Resumo: A presente tese foi desenvolvida no âmbito da Geografia Cultural, tendo como objeto de estudo o carnaval da cidade de Salvador, a qual é tratada neste trabalho como Cidade da Bahia. A pesquisa busca compreender o sentido e o significado da celebração através das narrativas das pessoas que participam dos blocos afro e afoxés. Essas experiências e vivências materializam a espacialidade simbólica afro antes, durante e depois do carnaval, manifestando a sua apoteose durante a festa. O carnaval da cidade da Bahia possui a característica de constituir-se como a maior festa popular do mundo, reunindo mais de um milhão de pessoas durante os seus seis dias de duração. A espacialidade simbólica afro no carnaval baiano revela a importância da conformação simbólica da realidade pela arte, pela linguagem e pela religião que possibilitou a cultura de matriz africana ter ressonância e visibilidade na sociedade em que está inserida. Assim, a espacialidade simbólica afro resulta dos elementos da cultura negra que, na diáspora africana, foram preservados e ressignificados ao longo dos séculos em nosso território, nos Candomblés e Quilombos, como formas de resistência a hegemonia cultural europeia no Brasil. Nessa perspectiva, constatamos no decorrer da pesquisa a influência que os diversos Terreiros de Candomblé, liderados majoritariamente por mulheres negras, exercem no cotidiano dos integrantes dos blocos afro e afoxés, constituindo-se como imprescindíveis para a materialização da espacialidade simbólica afro na festividade baiana. Nesse aspecto, observa-se que a música, os rituais, os ritmos, as performances e a indumentária das entidades afro analisadas são originários dos Terreiros de Candomblé, coexistindo com outras influências estéticas apresentadas na pesquisa. A religiosidade também se manifesta de forma direta em determinados rituais realizados em momentos específicos para pedir bênçãos aos participantes da festa. A pesquisa teve como recorte grupos afros tradicionais e representativos do carnaval de Salvador, os blocos afro Ilê Aiyê e Olodum e o afoxé Filhos de Gandhy. Através deste recorte constata-se o empoderamento dos carnavalescos pela indumentária e pela dança através da corporeidade que repercute a espacialidade afro, assim como a musicalidade dos blocos afro reverbera a poesia, o protesto e a narrativa mítica que ocupam um papel essencial na materialização da espacialidade simbólica afro no carnaval da cidade da Bahia.Abstract: The present thesis was developed within the scope of Cultural Geography, having as its object of study the Carnival of the city of Salvador, Brazil, which is treated in this work as City of Bahia.The research seeks to understand the meaning and significance of the celebration through the narratives of the people who participate in the afro-blocks and afoxés. These experiences materialize the symbolic Afro spatiality before, during, and after the carnival, manifesting its apotheosis during the celebration. The carnival of the city of Bahia has the characteristic of being the largest popular party in the world, gathering more than one million people during its six-day duration. The Afro symbolic spatiality in the Bahian carnival reveals the importance of the symbolic conformation of reality through art, language, and religion that enabled the culture of African origin to have resonance and visibility in the society in which it is inserted. Thus, the symbolic African spatiality results from the elements of black culture that, in the African Diaspora, were preserved and re-signified over the centuries in our territory, in Candomblés and Quilombos, as forms of resistance to the European cultural hegemony in Brazil. In this perspective, we verified during the research the influence that the several Terreiros de Candomblé (Afro Candomblé grounds), led mostly by black women, exert in the daily life of the members of the afro-blocks and afoxés, constituting themselves as indispensable for the materialization of the symbolic African spatiality in Bahia's festivities. In this aspect, it is observed that the music, the rituals, the rhythms, the performances, and the clothing of the analyzed afro entities originate from the Candomble Grounds, coexisting with other aesthetic influences presented in the research. The religiosity also manifests itself directly in certain rituals performed at specific moments to ask for blessings from the participants of the party. The research had as a cutout traditional and representative afro groups of Salvador's carnival, the blocos Afro Ilê Aiyê and Olodum, and the Afoxé Filhos de Gandhy.
