Resumo: We proposed to describe the adhesion to the antihypertensive non-pharmacologic treatment among users from a school health center (SHC) from the city of Umuarama, Parana state, Brazil. This is an observational, transversal, and descriptive study for all the hypertensive people diagnosticated with primary arterial hypertension, registered and accompanied in the SHC in Umuarama, until year 2003. Dates were obtained through a structured interview with closed questions related to dietary inputs, smoking and alcoholism, stress, and practice of physical activities. The percentage of adhesion to the non-pharmacologic treatment was identified, as well as the characterization of the hypertensive patients. It is concluded that the adhesion to the non-pharmacologic treatment did not occur in most of the interviewed patients, especially with relation to the diet and physical activities. Descriptors: hypertension; lifestyle; patient compliance.Propusimos describir la adhesión al tratamiento no farmacológico anti-hipertensivo (TNFAH) entre usuarios de un Centro de Salud Escuela (CSE) del municipio de Umuarama estado del Paraná, Brasil. El estudio fue observacional, transversal y descriptivo, destinado a la totalidad de hipertensos con confirmación diagnostica de HA primaria, registrados y acompañados en el CSE en Umuarama, hasta el año 2003. Los datos fueron obtenidos a través de una entrevista estructurada, con preguntas cerradas relacionadas al consumo alimentar, al hábito de fumar y de tomar bebidas alcohólicas, al control del estrés y la practica de ejercicio físico. Se identifico el porcentaje de adhesión a cada criterio del tratamiento no farmacológico investigado, como también la caracterización de los hipertensos. Se concluye de esta forma que la adhesión al tratamiento no farmacológico no ocurrió en la mayoría de los entrevistados, especialmente con relación a la dieta y al ejercicio físico. Descriptores: hipertensión; estilo de vida; cooperación del paciente.Objetivou-se descrever a adesão ao tratamento não–farmacológico anti-hipertensivo (TNFAH) entre usuários de um Centro de Saúde Escola (CSE) do município de Umuarama estado do Paraná, Brasil. O estudo foi observacional, transversal e descritivo, destinado à totalidade de hipertensos com confirmação diagnóstica de HA primária, cadastrados e acompanhados no CSE em Umuarama-PR, até o ano de 2003. A coleta de dados foi feita através de uma entrevista estruturada, contendo questões fechadas quanto ao consumo alimentar, hábito tabagista, hábito estilista, controle de estresse e prática de exercício físico. Identificou-se o percentual de adesão a cada critério do tratamento não-farmacológico investigado, assim como a caracterização dos hipertensos. Conclui-se que a adesão ao tratamento não-farmacológico não aconteceu para a maioria dos entrevistados, especialmente em relação à dieta e ao exercício físico.
