Summary: The term "gender ideology" was recurrently used in political discussions in Brazil and the meaning of this expression has varied over the years. Considering these changes in meaning, this article aims to analyze the discursive strategies of political communication that mobilized the term gender ideology in Twitter posts. Therefore, a corpus with 205 posts of entitled New Right, between 2014 and 2019, on the Twitter Advanced Search platform was cut. The analysis, of a quantitative character with a qualitative interpretation, is based on the French discourse analysis, considering the effects of meaning. The results show not only the change of direction as the 2018 election approached, but also that communicative strategies sought political polarization through the consolidation of two interdiscursive fields, inserting the gender ideology in opposition to the "values" of the New Right, as the “defence of the family” and the “brake back” to communism.
