The present paper deals with alphabetization and literacy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades of Elementary School with focus on the difficulties of the teacher at his pedagogical practice in the classroom and how he works with nine years old students, being able to offer these children a space reserved for reading and writing within the classroom. The study of the theoretical references was based on Soares (1998), Mortatti, (2004), Ferreiro (2001), among others. It aims to understand the development of alphabetization and literacy process given the difficulties that arise in the daily classroom routine. The field research was done by a questionnaire applied to teachers and coordinators from the Escola Municipal João Belo Alves, located in Serra dos Brandões, municipality of Picuí-PB. The collected data reveal a lack of indoor physical space to the accomplishment of some playful activities that could improve the performance and raising the interest of students during the development of their activities, as well as the contribution of families for these children’s learning. The school does not have a professional to provide school reinforcement, or to develop a meaningful learning within the educational parameters established for the students of that institution.
