Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status of hospitalized children and to identify associated factors. Methods: This is a prospective character, observational and analytical, developed with 55 children (0-24 months) of both sexes admitted to a university hospital. In data collection, we used a semi-structured questionnaire to record the information contained in the records and the child's vaccination card. For the evaluation of anthropometric nutritional status, it considered the z score for indicators: weight for age (W / A), height for age (H / A), weight for length (W / L) and body mass index for age (BMI / A). The SPSS version 13.0 software was used for data analysis, considering significant p ≤ 0.05. Results: On admission, the nutritional status of children admitted was considered adequate for W / A (89%), H / A (91%) and W / L (60%). With respect to the BMI / A, it was found that 20% of the internal were overweight. The nutritional status at the time of hospital admission and discharge was not associated with the clinical diagnosis, with the length of hospital stay and breastfeeding. It was also not identified association between weight gain (no changes, loss or weight gain) and the variables analyzed. Conclusions: There was a low rate of prevalence of malnutrition on admission and at discharge.
