Resumo: The plant Eugenia nitida Camb. which grows in reef areas, belongs to Myrtaceae family, genus Eugenia and is popularly known as manga-do-brejo. The essential oil from its leaves, obtained by hydrodistillation, was analysed by HRGC and HRGC-MS and revealed a predominance of hydrocarbon sesquiterpenes and oxygenated sesquiterpenes in its chemical composition. Thirty-three compounds were identified by comparison of their mass spectra with the ones in the literature and Willey and NIST mass spectra library and by their Retention Indexes in a Iow-polarity fused sillica capillary column (5% diphenyl and 95% dimethyl-polisiloxane stationary phase). The sesquiterpene 4b-hidroxy-germacra-1 (10)5-diene is the major component of the oil (9,8%), followed by g-elemene (7,9%), E-caryophyllene (7,9%) and b-selinene (4,3%). The Retention Indexes calculated for a polar column (100% poliethylene-glicol stationary phase) were not conclusive because there is a great difference among the values of these indexes for a same substance in the literature. This discrepancy can be explained by the use of different equations to calculate these values and also by the type of stationary phase involved and temperature programming. Mass fragmentation proposals and biosynthetic routes are suggested to confirm the identity of the compounds.

Submitted by Celso Magalhaes (celsomagalhaes@ufrrj.br) on 2020-11-25T12:03:31Z No. of bitstreams: 1 1998 - Roberto Carlos Campos Martins.pdf: 1960429 bytes, checksum: f22689767005c767314d9de70a0200ec (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2020-11-25T12:03:31Z (GMT). Mass fragmentation proposals and biosynthetic routes are suggested to confirm the identity of the compounds.
