Resumo: Introduction: An electrical activity that occurs in the auditory system, generated by sound or electrical stimuli, is called Auditory Evoked Potential (AEP), they are visualized in the register as waves and are generated by different structures of the auditory system. Some experimental studies that have already been carried out have shown similarity between AEP generators in humans and animals. As their generators are multiple cortical areas, AEPs can be used to monitor neurophysiological changes including the impact of pharmacological agents on cortical functions. Purpose: to show the effectiveness of collecting Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials in rats. Method: The CAEP, P1-N1-P2 complex, were collected through electrodes positioned on the skull, in the fronto-coronal (active), right mastoid (reference) and left mastoid (ground) regions in Rattus norvegicus, Wistar variety that were kept in cages with temperature, humidity and diet controlled in a cycle of 12 hours light and 12 hours dark, which were lightly sedated by intramuscular injection of Ketamine (0.1 ml) and Xylazine (0.1 ml) for collection of PEAs. Result: It was possible to collect the P1-N1-P2 complex, whose mean values (± standard deviation) were 73-198ms for latency and -2.9 ms to 2 ms for amplitude, respectively. Conclusion: It is possible to collect CAEP, more precisely the P1-N1-P2 complex in Rattus norvegicus, Wistar variety and use this animal as an experimental model for experiments on the auditory system.
