For a company to grow, and stay on the market is effectively competitive is necessary, and administration, strategic management, competitiveness, innovation also. In this sense, there is the Production Engineering course, how qualified professionals to meet the market demands and innovations in business, putting into practice their knowledge of management, planning and logistics, among others. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the profile / quantity of school students in the course of Production Engineering from the Federal University of Sergipe and importance of the production engineer in the process of business innovation. As a result it was found that the majority of candidates in the entrance of the UFS, which competes will place in the course of Production Engineering, are male, classified also are mostly males aged up to 24, choose the language English as an option in the test of foreign language and will from the vestibular 2011 to 2013, the number of classified female. Finally, it was found that the Production Engineer professional is important in the production process of a company, especially in innovation.
