This work presents the analysis of the vertical and horizontal signaling of the SE-270 and SE361 sections that intersect the urban area of the municipality of Simão Dias – SE. This study is based on the signaling manuals of the National Traffic Council, on the road sign manual of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure and on the Brazilian Traffic Code. Field research were carried out to collect data on the location of the signs, the measures referring to height, lateral spacing and dimensions of the signs, in addition to the dimensions of the horizontal signs; for this purpose, a navigation GPS and measuring tapes were used. Then, the geoprocessing program QGIS was used to store all the necessary information, define critical locations in the studied area and generate maps for visualization and interpretation of the elements. Comparing the data collected with research on traffic signs, it was found that the sections covered need improvements in many points to become safe, such as signs indicating the proximity of schools and speed bumps or bumps; and correction of plates that do not comply with regulatory standards, that is, the adequacy of traffic signs is far from what is necessary. Thus, the main proposals for improvements in vertical signage are the maintenance of signs in an inadequate state and the installation of missing signs. As for the horizontal signaling, it is necessary to paint the roads central and lateral lines, paint the speed bumps, the parking demarcations and the maintenance/installation of the crosswalks painting.
