Summary: With this research, we seek to understand how the Union School Cooperative of the Getúlio Inácio de Farias Municipal School is structured in the community of Marimbas, located in the northwest of Minas Gerais, city of Chapada Gaúcha. For this, it is intended first to define what cooperativism is, when it emerged and how it is linked to the solidarity economy. Afterwards, the reader will be presented with a history of school cooperatives in Brazil, as well as a description of how the School Cooperative of the Getúlio Inácio de Farias Municipal School works. Finally, it is intended to identify the peculiarities of the cooperative, as well as trying to understand the conflict between the concept of cooperativism and the practical experience of students in the cooperative.
