RESUMO: Este artigo visa apresentar uma leitura da obra As visitas do Dr. Valdez, de João Paulo Borges Coelho, partindo da consideração de que há dois eixos norteadores nesse romance: a construção da identidade  moçambicana e a representação de Dr. Valdez. Esses eixos ligam-se pela intercalação do tempo narrativo e da memória. Pretendemos apontar que essa prosa se desenrola por meio de uma tessitura de histórias ficcionais, reais, passadas e presentes que se coadunam na circularidade do tempo, da narrativa e da concepção de vida, no seio da tradição cultural africana. Representação.        ABSTRACT: This article aims to present a reading about As visitas do Dr. Valdez, by João Paulo Borges Coelho, considering that there are two organizing axis in this novel: the Mozambican identity building and Dr. Valdez’s representation. These axis connect themselves by shifting narrative and memory time. We intend to show that this narration develops itself through a texture of fictional, real, past and present stories that result in the circularity of time, narrative and life conception, among the African cultural tradition.
