Digital preservation policy terminology: a glossary building exercise

Terminology is understood, in at least two senses: as the domain of knowledge that studies the terms adopted in the areas of specialties, and as the standardized set of terms of certain activity or profession. The objective of this article is to build a small glossary of terms and concepts related to the theme of digital preservation. As for the methodology, it is an exploratory and descriptive, research based on the study of national and international scientific literature on the theme. The empirical study was carried out in 13 informational, sources, with coverage of the research period from 1990 to 2019. The results indicated that out of 789 works, 21 were selected and considered relevant. It was possible to assemble a table with 35 terms and 54 concepts. It was concluded that studies and research concerning glossaries will contribute to the terminological structuring of professional activities and, naturally, to standardize their Terminologies to reduce interferences in the communication process. They can also contribute to develop research on digital preservation and direct other concepts and terms in the area.
