Summary: Robert Brandom's Making It Explicit is a very complex, difficult, extensive and misunderstood book. One of its main objectives is to explain normativity from a pragmatist point of view, basically, the thesis that the norms are instituted by attitudes of rational beings engaged in social and inferentially articulated practices. In this paper, my goal is to develop the structure of the book regarding specifically the "normative pragmatics", showing the concepts and vocabulary Brandom introduces to account normativity. Then, I present three modes at which we can understand the normative practices and discuss the problems and solutions we find in each mode. I conclude with a short analysis on the main criticism made to the book.
