The text-image relationship in the journalistic discourse through the critical linguistics perspective

Summary: Given the importance and power of the news in contemporary society, it is not surprising that journalistic discourse is so studied. Such discourse has specific characteristics and methods of production and consumption. The aim of this article is to identify the interrelationship between written texts and images on the front pages of two printed newspapers from Minas Gerais, produced during the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the linguistic style, the analysis of the organization of the elements, the Equilibrium Structure provided by producers and the discursive practices that shape journalistic discourse. In order to achieve the aims, I seek support in Critical Discourse Analysis. On the other hand, studies that specifically analyze the discursive practices of journalistic discourse are extremely important. The results show that the linguistic resources were adjusted to the target audience, the images established important relationships with the written texts and the news value proved to be important in the making of the covers.

Tal discurso tiene características y métodos de producción y consumo específicos. El objetivo de este artículo es identificar la interrelación entre textos escritos e imágenes en las portadas de dos diarios impresos de Minas Gerais, producidos durante la pandemia de Covid-19, a partir del estilo lingüístico, el análisis de la organización de los elementos de portada, la Estructura de Equilibrio proporcionada por los productores y las prácticas discursivas que configuran el discurso periodístico. Para el logro de los objetivos busco apoyo en el Análisis Crítico del Discurso. Por otro lado, los estudios que analizan específicamente las prácticas discursivas del discurso periodístico son de suma importancia. Los resultados muestran que: los recursos lingüísticos se ajustaron al público objetivo; las imágenes establecieron importantes relaciones con los textos escritos; y el valor informativo demostró ser importante en la elaboración de las portadas.Dada a importância e poder das notícias na sociedade contemporânea, não é surpresa que o discurso jornalístico seja tão estudado. Tal discurso possui características e métodos de produção e consumo específicos. O objetivo deste artigo é identificar a inter-relação entre textos escritos e as imagens nas capas de dois jornais impressos mineiros, produzidos durante a pandemia de Covid-19, a partir do estilo linguístico, da análise da organização dos elementos de capa, da Estrutura de Equilíbrio (EE) fornecida pelos produtores e das práticas discursivas que moldam o discurso jornalístico. Para que os objetivos sejam alcançados, busco suporte na Análise Crítica do Discurso. Por outro lado, os estudos que analisam especificamente as práticas discursivas do discurso jornalístico são de extrema importância.
