Expansion of preschool classes in elementary schools: reaffirming the right of children to quality

Resumo: | The study intends to discuss issues implied in the right to quality early childhoodeducation weakened in the context of preschool enrollment universalization. Among thedifferent arrangements made in the education systems, the addition of preschool educationclasses in schools that were previously exclusively elementary schools could put the specificityof early childhood education in jeopardy, but it could also contribute to an articulation betweenthese two stages of basic education, bringing continuity to the process experienced by thechildren. Our argument is in the sense that the country has sufficient legal order, officialorientations and theoretical contributions to subsidize coverage expansion to ages four and five-years-old within the quality criteria that respect all children’s right to live well their childhood years at the beginning of school life. |
