Resumo: The focus of this work is the children's play of swinging, aiming at recognizing and highlighting, from a phenomenological perspective, the sensitive and poetic dimensions that enhance the encounter between the child and the teacher. With theoretical and methodological support from phenomenological observation, particularly drawing from J.W. Goethe and G. Bachelard, records of empirical pedagogical experiences in two early childhood education contexts in Cape Town (South Africa) and Florianopolis are presented and discussed. The analysis of these records reveals different forms and meanings of swinging in children's play: spinning, back and forth motion, daydreaming. The discussion in the essay seeks to demonstrate the various implications that phenomenological description can yield, ranging from practical reflections on daily school life to a deeper understanding of the gestures of play.
